What You Don't Know Will Amaze You!
When you hear the title "The Arc of Monroe" you may recognize the name and recall it is an organization established to serve persons with Developmental Disabilities and Mental Retardation. You may have some understanding that our philosophy is one of treating people with respect and that we provide services to enhance the quality of life and the abilities to achieve. You may think of work programs and residences and job placement. All these perceptions are true, yet do not begin to describe or define who we are or what we do today.
Did you know that our Community Arts Program has honed the talents of visual artists and performers, dancers and jazz musicians alike, who have won awards and delighted audiences? That the establishment of "Everybuddies Theatre Company" produced "Seussical the Musical" in 2007, with a community-wide cast and to rave reviews?
Did you know that our Job Path Center partners with area employers to train and place hundreds of qualified folks each year, or that ArcWorks contracts with a variety of local businesses to produce and package a myriad of products? Did you know that building economic independence is part of what we do?
Did you know that we have over 30 residences in towns throughout Monroe County – in Rush, Penfield, Fairport, Pittsford and Henrietta, East Rochester, and Greece – good neighbors, every one of them!
We now serve over 3500 adults in Monroe County with over 40 locations and a wide variety of services. The Arc Foundation proudly funds initiatives not traditionally funded, giving back thousands of your dollars to create opportunities beyond standard expectations with results beyond the ordinary! "Dream It, Do It" continues to fulfill hundreds of dreams through your generosity and the excellent support of our staff and friends. We are driven by our belief in social inclusion and the abilities of all people to contribute effectively to their community.
Yes, our folks are out and about in the community, volunteering, working, entertaining, and establishing meaningful relationships and personal achievements. Get to know these people, your fellow citizens, your neighbors. Say hello to them, shake their hand. Open your heart and mind to include all people as part of your community and see how
Your World Will Change!
