Helping people get the most out of every day!

The Day Services program at The Arc of Monroe County provides a warm, enriching environment that encourages individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to celebrate their unique talents through recreation, community involvement and volunteerism.

Focusing on independence, inclusion, individualization and productivity, the Day Services program promotes life-long learning opportunities through activities that stimulate mental, emotional, and social growth.

Activities take place both on-site and in the community, and are specifically tailored to the individual’s interests, desires, and abilities.

Ballantyne Day Services

Ballantyne Day Services provides services to individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and age related conditions including dementia. Through meaningful, failure-free, customized activities, we work to maintain abilities and promote individuals’ overall quality of life. Our services are offered in a safe environment that is relaxing and designed to foster success.

Promoting health and wellness of body and mind, individuals are encouraged to express themselves through nostalgic activities, gardening, exercise, music, and massage therapy. By building community experiences and developing meaningful relationships, the program further enhances each individual’s sense of self.

Southwest Day Services

Southwest Day Services provides services for many individuals with varying needs and interests. With 55 individuals currently receiving services, the site is focused on not only providing basic needs, but on meeting the individuals' goals and providing assistance in our community. The individuals participate in volunteering activities at Meals on Wheels, the Soup Kitchen, Episcopal Church Home, Food Link, and the Moose Lodge. The individuals are also members of the local YMCA, library, and bowling alley.

When on site, the individuals participate in activities such as arts and crafts, chorus, dance group, exercise group, and karaoke. They learn about the weather, money, and current events, and work with a music therapist from the Hochstein School of Music.

Henrietta Day Services

Henrietta Day Services, which opened on March 3, 2008, provides services to 10 individuals. The site focuses on autism and other communication based needs. With such a small group of individuals and a fairly large staffing ratio, the site offers a lot of 1:1 attention. Sensory activities as well as activities in the community are central to this site. The group participates in volunteering in the community at Meals on Wheels, the Red Cross, and Soap Makers. The individuals are members of the YMCA and the local library, and receive OT services from The Arc Health Clinic, as well as from outside resources such as BOCES and the Finger Lakes Clinical Associates. Individuals truly flourish at this home-like site.

Community Arts Connection

Community Arts Connection provides the opportunity for individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to explore individual artistic talents, choose an arts career and be trained for that path. Individuals arrive with a variety of physical and emotional challenges. We are a day habilitation site using the arts to facilitate the achievement of a full range of valued outcomes including social, emotional and cognitive goals.

Artists are encouraged to volunteer as a component of the program services. Volunteer opportunities are socially and artistically driven and provide the individuals we serve the chance to use their artistic talents to give back to their community.

Our faculty consists of professional working artists with ties to area arts organizations including Geva Theatre Center, Eastman School of Music, Nazareth College, The University of Rochester, and the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester.

Our arts programs include:

  • Dance / Movement
  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Visual Arts
  • Writing

People with intellectual and other developmental disabilities can aspire to a career in the arts and to work in an inclusive setting, surrounded by people from all walks of life.
