Empowering the decision making process.
The Arc of Monroe County is a leader in supporting self-advocacy and is committed to individuals with disabilities taking an active role in all decisions concerning their lives and goals.
At The Arc of Monroe County, self-advocates participate in key decision-making forums, including having representation on The Arc of Monroe County Board of Directors.
The Arc of Monroe County sponsors several self-advocacy groups including “The Alliance”, “Independently Together”, and “Speaking Out Advocating Rights” (SOAR). These groups proactively promote respect, dignity, and quality of life for all individuals with a disability. Working at the local, state, and national levels, they advocate for legislative and community change, and offer education and training to their members and to the community at large.
Members of the self-advocacy initiative support individuals in making educated choices, participating in key decision making, and having the right to assume responsibility for their actions.
