Recycling Makes Friends

Every Wednesday morning, three participants of the Arc’s East Henrietta day program raise money for Ronald McDonald House. Together with two staff, they remove about 1,500 tabs each week from aluminum cans at Recycling Makes Sense, a new business on Jefferson Road in Henrietta.
 
These aluminum tabs are worth money, but the experience is priceless for everyone, even the business owner.

When Lidia Kunz was hired by Strong Memorial Hospital in the summer of 2011, she wasn’t the only one who got a new job. Her mother did, too…being a mom again.
 
“I needed to be many things to Lidia—a counselor, a job coach, a mentor,” said Linda Kunz. “Now I don’t have to do all those other things. I just get to be her mom again. Lidia getting this job has improved our family relationships and given her a new level of confidence. She knows she can succeed without her mom and dad. Job Path is the best program.”

Daniel Sant still remembers how people looked at his sister Jillian and him at a Christmas light show more than ten years ago. It was the first time he realized that some people had probably never been around someone with a developmental disability.
 
“The people walking toward us would just keep looking at us. I think that’s when I started becoming very protective of her and I’m still that way today,” he recalls. “I provide her with as much support as a brother can give.”
