Service Coordination
The Arc of Monroe County provides a personalized approach throughout Service Coordination, in order to assist individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities achieve self-fulfillment and success. Highly trained and culturally sensitive, our Service Coordinators ensure that services and activities work together to meet the needs of the individual and their family. Arc Health Services
An Article 16 Clinic certified by NYS OMRDD, Arc Health Services offers a broad range of evaluation and treatment services for individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities.
Arc Health Services typically schedules appointments:
Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Evening hours are available upon request.
Community Residential Habilitation
Individuals that are enrolled in Medicaid and achieving or maintaining independent living, may utilize Community Residential Habilitation to assist in the acquisition of daily living skills. Whether it is in the home setting or in the community, The Arc of Monroe County provides assistance on a weekly basis to ensure that the individual’s needs are met and their quality of life is maintained. Self Advocacy
Individuals participating in the Self-Advocacy initiative at The Arc of Monroe County work to proactively promote respect, dignity, and quality of life for all individuals with a disability. Independently Together, Community Connections, and Speaking Out Advocating Rights (SOAR) work at both the State and National levels to meet specific goals and objectives, as identified by their membership. Members of the Self-Advocacy initiative make educated choices, participate in the outcome of their decisions, and assume responsibility for their actions.
Cash Reimbursement
The Cash Reimbursement program at The Arc of Monroe County provides financial assistance to families caring for an individual with mental retardation and/or developmental disability. Funds assist in preventing out-of-home placements and enhance the quality of family life, while honoring flexibility and individual choice. Special Sitters
The Special Sitters program at The Arc of Monroe County is a home-based respite program for families of individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. Sitters complete 20 hours of training designed to promote skills, confidence, and sensitivity. Training is provided by The Arc of Monroe County, and is tailored to address the needs of individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. Once training requirements are met, sitters’ names are then referred to families enrolled in the program. A family is considered eligible for services, providing the individual that requires the sitter currently resides in the family home, within Monroe County. Every individual at The Arc of Monroe County is provided social and therapeutic recreational services. Programs include swimming, bowling, dances, Special Olympics, Rochester area community outings, and out of town day trips.
Guardianship
In New York State, when an individual reaches 18 years of age, he or she is assumed to be a legally competent adult and able to manage his or her own affairs. Guardianship is a planning alternative that enables parents, relatives or a corporate guardianship program to act on behalf of the individual. Legal Guardianship can only be appointed through the Monroe County Surrogate Court system.
The NYSARC Corporate Guardianship Program offers families the assurance that future decisions which affect the quality of life of their relatives who have mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities are made in their best interest. Dedicated staff and volunteers assist the individual in making decisions about good health care, appropriate housing, day program and recreational services.
Our Corporate Guardianship program provides services under a number of guiding principles including:
- Guardianship is a life – long relationship of trust.
- Guardians advocate as ethical, caring and competent family members.
- Guardians promote independence in decision - making.
- Guardians ensure that an individual receives the best services available to them.
