THE ARC OF MONROE LAUNCHES NEW PARENT TRANSISTION PROGRAM
Rochester, N.Y. (October 5, 2012) — The Arc of Monroe County is introducing a new program that focuses on the parents of young teens and young adults. The Adult Transition Parent Group will help parents with adult transition planning and post-secondary options for their children or guardians.
Parents participating in the group will learn about requirements for transition planning in schools, college experiences, employment opportunities, expectations of the group and other topics. The group is meant to be interactive and is open to anyone interested.
“Our hope is that this group will be an interactive opportunity to expose families to all of the options available our community for their children and loved ones,” said Jamie Dermody, Community Outreach Coordinator at The Arc. “As a group, we will overview the services and supports available in Monroe County and learn from area-professionals on various topics. Our goal is to spread awareness, educate families and provide resources and support which will assist young adults in navigating through the system more effectively and seamlessly.”
The kickoff meeting for The Adult Transition Parent Group will be held on October 24, 2012 at 5pm in room 102 at The Arc of Monroe. If you plan to attend the event please RSVP by October 19, 2012 to Jaime Dermody at 585-730-6037 or jdermody@arcmonroe.org
