The Arc of Monroe County/RIT Enrichment Program, June 16-19

ROCHESTER, NY (JUNE 12, 2008)—The Arc of Monroe County/RIT Enrichment program kicks off its 17th year June 16-19 on the RIT campus. A select group of 30 individuals with developmental disabilities from The Arc of Monroe County will enjoy the on-campus learning experience, sharing in the academic and social aspects of college learning, with classes and workshops taught in a variety of subjects. A graduation ceremony will be held in RIT’s Ingle Auditorium at the conclusion of the program on June 19, with Mayor Robert Duffy speaking at commencement.

One of the most popular and competitive programs offered by The Arc of Monroe County, The Arc/RIT Enrichment program includes a formal application and acceptance process similar to those used by other academic institutions. The initiative encourages learning through class instruction and hands-on experience.

The on-campus environment at The Arc/RIT Enrichment program helps individuals with developmental disabilities get a true sense of college life—interacting with college professors and college student interns, using campus facilities, and meeting other students.

This year’s classes include photography, soccer, sign language, country line dancing, theatre and emergency awareness.
